creative yummies

If you ever wonder what to do on a snow day, I have an idea for you. Put your creative thinking cap on and come up with a dessert recipe as a family. In the afternoon, Mike cleaned off the car and we bundled up and hit the road. Fortunately, the grocery store is right down the road from our house. It was surprising to see as many cars in the parking lot as there were, but still the store seemed empty. After a few minutes of shopping, we were back on the road heading home.

We attempted a few things that did NOT work, but we won't dwell on those. We'll just try again another day. Instead, I will show you what did work!

Here's a bowl with mascarpone cheese, whipped cream, confectioner sugar, vanilla and orange zest. It was a rather yummy concoction.

K put sliced strawberries in individual dishes and Mike scooped the cream mixture on top.

We brushed phyllo dough layers with melted butter and I sprinkled cinnamon sugar on the top layer. These were baked for a few minutes until they turned crispy and browned.

Each dish got a crispy topper and a fresh scoop of fresh whipped cream (sweetened with a little confectioner sugar). Then topped with a strawberry slice.

Doesn't it look yummy?

Yes....it was!!

guess what we're studying....

With the holidays behind us, we've jumped right back into our schooling. It had been a long enough break and I think even K was ready for some learning. Today we had a project.
Oh, how she loves project days!

Start with a box of Sugar Cubes.

Dump them on a plate for easy access.

Start gluing them together
as you build....

... your pyramid.

As simple as this project was, K really enjoyed herself.
She said it was one of the best projects ever, but
then she started rattling off all her other favorite projects and they all came
from the source.

I think I have found the perfect curriculum for this child!!

Of course, I then made her give me a little report on all that she has learned this week.

Quite Impressive!!

Going Green....

The other day I finally caved and bought the crate of clementines for K. Don't think I deprive her of fruit. Our kitchen is full of apples, oranges, pineapple and bananas...but NO she wanted clementines. Anyway, I found a good deal and couldn't pass them up. Now, I will have to give her credit, because after just a few days they are almost all gone.

Yesterday, I noticed the few leftover clementines sitting on the counter and didn't think much about it until I noticed K missing AND quiet!! That always means some sort of project is underway.

You take one empty clementine crate,

glue, construction paper and stickers.

Put it altogether and what do you have?

The perfect bed for your favorite stuffed animal.

Here's Brownie trying out his new bed.
