Last week I shared that we had tea time here. It's become a fun way for me to connect with our daughter. We always have some sort of snack to go with our tea and last week it was cucumber sandwiches. She decided she didn't really like them all that much, because although she loves cream cheese she insists that it be a very, very thin layer of cream cheese. Apparently, I spread a little too thickly. (with me being in the camp of "I love me some cream cheese"!) Anyway, she had a few sandwich quarters and enjoyed the time yapping and sipping tea.
As I was cutting the crusts off the bread, K asked me what I was going to do with them. Now, I could throw them away and I just might have if she hadn't asked. In a fit of inspiration....I get those once in a while....I decided to make croutons. "CROUTONS???", asked K. "You can make croutons out of that ?" Hmmm, I'm thinking I am doing a great big failing job here as teacher if my student thinks croutons come from a bag at the supermarket! Sigh. So, I tell her that yes, we can make croutons and that it is easy and yummy. She looked a tad skeptical.

We started with our crusts cut up in cubes.
I used a basting brush to spread the butter and all its goodness over the bread cubes.
Over dinner we discovered....they tasted even
better than croutons!!

Good job mom! I love her comment. I wonder what things Yaya will automatically think come from the store. Hmmm
Stopping by to welcome you to SITS. These look SO yummy:)
Wow, those look yummy! I am always looking for something to do with my homemade bread heels and crusts. I keep letting them pile up in the freezer because I hate to throw them away! I will be trying this very soon!
What a cute recipe for the kids! We're going to have to try this!!
Hi, I just clicked on your name because you were posted above me in the SITS blogger feature and... to my great surprise... we have loads in common. I homeschool too (1 boy, 11 yrs. old.) I also am a Christian (I love Jesus!!!) and I too am a fan of the "creamcheese." Come by and see my blog sometime... www.rachelsdoggielife.blogspot.com
