Awesome Spelling Program

Sometimes you find a gem online and you just have to share. We stumbled across this free online spelling program last September, but only really started using it the past few months.

I can see this benefiting not only homeschoolers, but any child. You can create your own word lists for the child to learn or use lists already stored on their program. K has a spelling book, but I decided to put all her lists on Spelling City. She goes on the site and chooses one of the lists. With a push of the button the program will teach her the words. It says the words and spells them out for her. Next she plays games with the words. There are several entertaining games to choose from. She is ready to test usually the same day she starts a list. Of course, there is a function online for testing. When she gets a 100%, I make a mental note of that. Then after a few days I give her a written test. Fortunately for her, she almost always makes a 100% on that, too. Otherwise, it's back to the drawing board for her.

I don't feel the need to drag a spelling lesson out for a whole week. If you know them...you know them. However, I do review after a few weeks to make sure that the correct spelling has been maintained in the brain vault. K finds great satisfaction using this program and nailing a list down so quickly.

Best part for me...it's free.
